  DC's free Pre-K program expands access, supports quality, and provides real choices for families.
• Why CBOs Are Essential
  Community-Based Organizations like CommuniKids help sustain the whole early childhood system-keeping classrooms stable and infant/toddler care more affordable.
• Protecting the Pay Equity Fund (PEF)
  PEF ensures fair compensation for early educators. Protecting this fund is critical for teacher retention, classroom quality, and the long-term stability of PKEEP.
• Current Threats
  Recent budget and policy proposals could limit CBO participation, reduce funding, or weaken teacher pay protections.
• How Families Can Help
  Learn simple, impactful advocacy actions to support PKEEP, protect PEF, and strengthen the system for the 2026-27 school year and beyond.
